Pere, a 300 level student of the University of Benin has been declared dead.
CAMPUS GIST learnt on Wednesday that the deceased was a student in the department of Microbiology, faculty of Life Sciences.
It was also gathered that the deceased student was a former Director of Sports in the department of Microbiology.
Pere, as he was fondly called, was reportedly shot in the head at the popular Hall 2 car park of the university, some days ago. A video which surfaced online shortly after the incidence, supported this claim.
He was shot during a musical concert that had Nigeria’s Erigga in attendance.
He was rushed to the hospital where he was said to be responding to treatment.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of Microbiology, Divine Odemhin, said Pere needed some blood after he had lost some due to excess bleeding.
She promised to keep this news agency abreast with latest development regarding the incident.
However, a quick check on her social media post today revealed that Pere had taken his last breath.
She said: “We have lost a great friend, a great footballer and brother in Pere. I knew him in 100l, he use to come and train my course mates. He is just too nice and free with us. Great footballer, senior colleague, MCB has lost a legend. Just yesterday, I asked after him but today he is no more. I will miss you Perez, sleep on Bro. You will forever remain in our heart”.
Efforts to obtain comments from the university’s spokesman proved abortive, as his phone lines were either switched off or unreachable.
However, when our correspondent visited the faculty, students were seen in a moody state, a situation which suggested that Pere had truly kicked the bucket.
Meanwhile, management of the university has placed a ban on night events on campus following Saturday’s incidence. With this development, all events on campus are expected to last not longer than 4pm on any day.
