The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 23-year-old student of the University of Jos, Mercy Naan who was declared missing by her parents.
The Command’s Spokesman, DSP Tyopev Matthias Terna who confirmed the development in a statement on Monday, said the police received a distress call from the institution’s Security Department that on the same date, some students of the institution raised the alarm over an unusual odour coming out from Room number 23 Zion Hostel in Naraguta area of the university.
Tyopev stated that a combined team, comprising of the Police, the University Security Department and Medical personnel from the University were mobilised to the scene of the crime.
He said that the suspected hostel door was forced opened and the motionless body of the 200 level student from the Department of Marketing was seen and recovered to the University Clinic.
According to him, the student was confirmed dead by the medical doctor on duty at the University Clinic and her corpse deposited at the Anatomy Mortuary of the same University for Autopsy.
The Spokesman added that the detectives of the Plateau State Police Command have since commenced investigation to unravel the mystery behind the unfortunate death.
